It needs to be right, and will go to great lengths to not only prove that it’s right, but to prove that it’s better than others. Even if that means disconnection, pushing away those we care about the most. Ego’s impulse to prove its superiority to others can even drive us to create situations where we get to prove WE’RE the “good guy,” and THEY’RE the “bad guy”…when what we truly want is peace and connection. Union. Intimacy. For the walls and barriers to dissolve so we can see the true essence of each another. To experience a remembrance of never having NOT known that essence. Our ego is threatened by the thought of union, afraid of losing itself. But let’s not make ego that bad guy here. After all, how ironic would that be? It’s simply perfectly doing what it’s designed to do. The key isn’t overcoming the ego, but surrendering it.
